Varese, Italy hosted the 9th edition of Gran Fondo Tre Valli Varesine this past weekend, affording 3000 amateurs the opportunity to qualify for the August 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Niseko, Japan.
Riders finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category automatically qualified for the world championships.
On Saturday speedy time trial riders raced over a 22km route with the reigning UCI Gran Fondo Time Trial World Champion Guillaume Seye (CIBEL – CEBON) of Belgium setting a time of 27:22 to win with a blistering fast average pace of 48 km/h. The 28 year-old defeated Dennis Biederer 27:47 and Paolo Molinaroli 28:43 who completed the men’s podium.
41 year-old Alina Mylka (THOMUS|WINDOMASTER BY WYSS TRAINING) of Poland improved upon her second place finish last year to win the women’s time trial in 32:41, followed Lucia Lisco 34:14 and Silvia Milone 34:48.
35 year-old Nove Colli champion Alberto Nardin (TEAM BCP BIKE) won Sunday’s 126km alpine gran fondo by a wide margin, crossing the finish stripe in Varese solo with a time of 3:12:51. Five minutes later Luca Cavallo, Giovanni Loiscio and Marco Rinaldi sprinted for the remaining podium steps, with Loiscio taking second and Rinaldi third.
For the women it was Fausto Coppi champion Annalisa Prato (OM.CC) of Italy taking the gran fondo win. The 27 year-old finished in 3:50:54, with Maria Elena Palmisano 3:51:21 and Francesca Tommasi 3:55:09 rounding out the podium.
Winning the 101km medio fondo were Italians Gianluca Braghetto (NMD-NEW MOLINI DOLO) in 2:40:37 for the men and Michela Gorini (SANTINI SQUADRA CORSE) for the women in 3:02:05.
