With the 2025 season coming to a close and cyclists in the Northern Hemisphere moving their training indoors for winter, the staff at Gran Fondo Daily has been logging miles, virtual miles, to rate the best virtual cycling platforms.

ZWIFT: The most popular platform with the largest subscriber base. Zwift offers a “fun” gamified riding/training experience targeting fitness riders. With seemingly endless miles of virtual asphalt, thousands of socially engaging cyclists and frequent competitive rides, it makes staying in shape and keeping off those pesky winter pounds relatively easy. On the other hand, the Zwift competitive “racing” experience can be fraught with suspect results, unrealistic performances and wonky data. Best All-Purpose platform. Monthly cost $19.99 USD.

ROUVY: This platform specializes in groovy real-world augmented video reality riding experiences. It is ideal for riders looking to log winter miles on iconic roads around the world, as well as triathletes in search of riding real-world IRONMAN courses. Best for solo riding. Cost $19.99 USD month.

MYWHOOSH: With Zwift recently abandoning elite level racing, MyWhoosh is now the de facto virtual racing platform, offering very competitive races, performance verification and big money prize payouts. Best for racers looking to mix it up – or anyone looking to workout on the cheap. Cost FREE.

TRAININGPEAKS VIRTUAL: Formerly know as IndieVelo, this platform is integrated with the popular TrainingPeaks software and offers the most accurate physics, but graphics are a bit lacking. Host platform for the 2025 USA Cycling Esports Championships. Best for riders already using TrainingPeaks. Cost $19.99 USD month including TrainingPeaks Premium features.

TRAINERROAD: AI-powered goal-oriented training plans that tend to be quite intense, rather than unstructured just-riding-around (JRA) winter miles. Best for time-crunched cyclists looking for highly structured winter training. Cost $21.99 USD month.

WAHOO X: Well integrated with Wahoo hardware and based on the famous high intensity training “Sufferfest” DVD series from the early 2000s. Best deal for riders needing structured workouts. Cost $14.99 USD

Other virtual cycling platforms BKOOL, KINOMAP.
