Sea Otter Europe Gravel, the final qualifying event before the fourth UCI Gravel World Championships, took place Saturday in the Les Gavarres massif of Spain with Ridley Racing teammates Daan Soete and Nicole Frain both standing tall on the podium after winning.
The 107km route with a demanding 1828m of elevation difference saw the Australian Frain power away from the women’s field to win solo in 3:40:00. Emilie Morier 3:45:54 of France and Marta Tora Mila 3:45:48 of Spain earned second and third place to qualify for the worlds.
The men’s race came down to a battle between the Belgian Soete and Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale teammates Dorian Goddon of France and Stan Dewulf of Belgium, with Soete prevailing in a furious sprint to the line. He finished in 3:10:49, followed by Goddon 3:10:50 and Stan Dewulf 3:12:21. Petr Vakoc and Romain Bardet were next with 2023 Gravel World Champion Matej Mohoric finishing 23rd.
Overt 800 riders participated in the final qualifying race before the world championship, with those finishing in the top 25% of their UCI age/gender category automatically qualifying to compete in the Limburg, Netherlands next month.
