Minnesota USA police report cyclist Jeffrey Hall, 49, was critically injured when a pickup truck with “brakes not in working order” failed to yield and crashed into the cyclist early Tuesday morning August 12.

The former MTB professional was thrown from his bike and sustained multiple injuries, including broken bones, and was taken by medics to the Hennepin County Medical Center ICU, where he remains.

Hall who started racing at age 11 won the world famous Chequamegon MTB race twice, once at age 19 and again at age 39. Both times besting a field of over 3000 competitors.

According to police statements, the pickup driver William E. Vick Jr., 49, was making a right hand turn when he failed to yield and hit Hall. Police investigators then discovered the truck “brakes not in working order.”

The Minnesota Star Tribune reports “court records show that Vick’s driving history includes five convictions for driving after his license was revoked, three for driving without proof of insurance and one each for driving an unregistered vehicle, having expired tabs, disobeying stop sign and speeding.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with Hall’s medical bills and rehabilitation, with over $22,000 USD already donated.
