Long considered the hardest hill climb in North America, the 52nd Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb took place Saturday morning in New Hampshire USA, with Ian Boswell and Illi Gardner winning with record breaking times.
Boswell, a 34 year-old ex-WorldTour pro turned gravel racer, reached the 6288’ summit of the highest peak in the Northeastern USA in 50:15. He broke Phil Gaimon’s 2022 record up the 7.6 mile climb averaging 12% gradient by 23 seconds.
Peter Stetina, 38, earned second place with a time of 51:36, followed by ultra-endurance athlete Jack Kuenzle, 30, at 54:16 and then USA Gran Fondo National Champion Andrew Knight, 48, at 55:45
26 year-old British National Hill Climb Champion Illi Gardner was the fastest women, setting a new record of 58:01 and destroying the old record set in 2023 by over 8 minutes! Lydia MacKenzie, 34, was next at 1:14:43, followed Aimee Vasse, 47, at 1:18:42.
