UCI Gravel World Championship qualifying resumed in Halmstad, Sweden at Gravel Grit ‘n Grind on Saturday after a five week mid-summer break. Just under 700 graveleurs lined up to try and qualify for worlds by finishing in the top 25% of their UCI age/gender category.

After winning UCI Gravel One Fifty last month, 23 year-old Dutch road racer Jordan Habets (METEC SOLARWATT) took overall victory on the 146 kilometer long route in 3:56:30, followed a few seconds later by Anton Stensby (TEAM COOP-REPSOL) and Ian Millennium (CYKLING ODENSE) in that order. Luca Dreßler and Linus Ostdal completed the Top 5. Just retired WorldTour pro racer Romain Bardet, 34, of France finished 10th and secured a starting bib for the world championships in October.

Also a UCI Gravel One Fifty champion last month, 28 year-old Dutch pro Femke Markus (TEAM SD WORX – PROTIME) won the women’s race in 4:34:53 after defeating Nicole Frain (RIDLEY RACING) and Irina Lutzelschwab (TEAM BULLS SWISS) in a tight sprint to the finish stripe. Hanna Nilsson and Tiffany Cromwell rounded out the Top 5.

Cromwell’s partner, F1 race car driver Valterri Bottas, finished 23rd in the men’s 35-39 category, falling just short of qualifying for the world championships.
