Former Tour de France star Rigoburto Uran brought his amateur El Giro de Rigo gran fondo to Ecuador on Sunday 27 July, with newly crowned Ecuadorian MTB National Champion Patracio Cuzco claiming overall victory.

From a field of 2000 participants starting at an oxygen deprived altitude of 2800 meters in the city of Quito, the 36 year-old rider finished the 130 kilometer gran fondo in 3:23:00, followed closely by 45 year-old Francisco De La Torre at 3:23:09 and Josue Davila, 34, at 3:25:55

29 year-old Colombian MTB rider Jessica Roldan soloed to victory for the women in 3:54:21. Angelica Moreno, 33, was next at 3:57:16 and Emilia Astudillo, 29, stepped onto the podium with a time of 4:02:55.

Esteban Travez, 25, won the 90 kilometer medio fondo in 2:35:08. Daulet Martinez and Felipe Jaramillo earned second and third place with finishing times of 2:35:58 and 2:38:08 respectively.

Future star Samantha Simbana, 19, showcased her abilities by dominating the women’s medio fondo to win in 3:04:16, ten minutes in front of Josselyn Carolina Jaramillo Salas and Jenny Ona.
