Italian pro-am team Swatt Club claimed their second elite national championship title on Sunday 27 July at the Italian Gravel Championships, with Matteo Gaffuri, 26, claiming his first Tricolore jersey.
The 2023 GFNY World Champion finished the 115km race solo in 2:42:37, while decimating the field and leaving everyone else to slowly dribble across the finish line. Agostinacchio Filippo was second, over four minutes behind at 2:47:02, followed by Matteo Zurlo at 2:51:04.
With Gaffuri’s national gravel title and teammate Filippo Conca’s national road title, the upstart Swatt Club has claimed two of the most prestigious Italian cycling titles this year, leaving many pro team directors scratching their heads in awe.
Carlotta Borello riding for Team Cingolani-Specialized won the women’s elite gravel national title, pulling on her prized tricolore jersey after finishing in 3:10:27. Greta Recchia and Giulia Bisso completed the podium in 3:12:16 and 3:13:30 respectively.
The national championship race was held as part of the Amiata Bike Festival in southern Tuscany, with over 500 cyclists participating in various events.
