French police are investigating the death of 25 year-old Irish bike racer Tomas Walsh due to electrocution while he was in Paris to watch the 2025 Tour de France.
Walsh’s Comeragh Cycling Club made the sad announcement, “It is with great sadness that we have learned that our clubmate and friend young Tomás Walsh has lost his life in France.”
The tragic incident reportedly took place late Monday night inside the Grands Boulevards metro station, where the body of Walsh was found lying on underground railway tracks.
While full circumstances of the incident are not yet known, authorities said there was no evidence at this point to suggest foul play.
The 25-year-old started racing with Comeragh Cycling Club as a Youth and excelled in the Junior ranks. He participated in the highly competitive Junior Tour of Ireland in 2018 and won the Frank O’Rourke Memorial Road Race that same year. He went on to race at the elite senior level with success, even competing in Belgium for a bit to chase his cycling dreams.
