Swealtering conditions could not slow down Luca Cavallo (OM.CC) Sunday morning at the 44th Marmotte Granfondo in the French Alps, with the Italian blazing up Alpe d’Huez to set a new course record en route to victory.

On the epic 177 kilometer route with 5000 meters of climbing that ends on Alpe d’Huez’s famous 21 hairpin turns, the 25 year-old neo-pro dropped all challengers to win in 5:17:38, breaking the course record by almost three minutes. Clement Thibaut (5:20:18), Jack Burke (5:21:31), Tim Alleman (5:23:38) and Damien Jeanjean (5:24:31) completed the Top 5 riders.

Cavallo’s win follows on the heels of his incredible victory at the Italian classic Sportful Dolomiti Granfondo last Sunday.

Coming off a win strong win at Les Trois Ballons three weeks ago, 30 year-old German Stephanie Meder (EMBRACE THE WORLD) also soloed to a dominant victory in the women’s race, finishing atop Alpe d’Huez in 6:18:38, followed by Catherine Rossmann (6:22:03) and Angelina Mireille (6:34:37).

With over 5000 riders Marmotte Granfondo is one of the largest cycling events in the Alps, ascending five legendary Tour de France passes: the Glandon, the Telegraph, the Galibier, the Lautaret, and a final ascent of Alpe d’Huez.
