A Tallahassee, Florida USA man has been sentences to 20 years in prison for a deadly hit-and-run in 2023 that killed USA National Champion Jake Boykin.
John Corbett Horne, 62, was sentenced by Jefferson County Judge Dawn Caloca-Johnson on Friday to 20 years in prison and 11 years probation after being found guilty of felony Manslaughter by DUI and Leaving The Scene Of Crash Involving Death in connection with the hit-and-run killing of 25 year-old cyclist Jake Boykin in September 2023.

Court records revealed: 1) While Boykin was on a training ride a pickup truck driven by Horne hit Boykin before fleeing the crash scene with Boykin’s bike still lodged in the truck’s front bumper, 2) Florida Highway Patrol officers tracked down the pickup and found open beer bottles inside, 3) A blood alcohol concentration (BAC) test revealed Horne’s BAC was three times over the legal limit of 0.08%.
Although Boykin only started racing in 2022, he quickly achieved top results. Representing Florida State University, he won the 2023 USA Cycling Collegiate Time Trial Championship just four months before his tragic death.
