Sport Integrity Australia and AusCycling announced 29 year-old amateur cyclist Tomasin Clark has been banned for 3 years and stripped of a national championship title after testing positive for the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited substances Ostarine and Ligandrol.
Clark, a track cycling specialist and exercise physiologist, tested positive out-of-competition on 29 January 2024, just weeks before winning the Australian National Team Sprint Championship in early March.
Furthermore, Sport Integrity Australia determined that from November 2021 until August 2023, Clark was in possession of Ostarine – also a WADA violation.
Clark is disqualified from any results, including the forfeiture of medals, points and prizes, obtained after 29 January 2024 and is banned from participating in sport in any capacity until 28 January 2027.
Unfortunately, Clark’s disqualification also results in her 2024 Australian National Championship Team Sprint teammates loosing their gold medals and national titles as well.
Both Ostarine and Ligandrol are Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) that can improve performance by inducing muscle growth without side effects typically associated with steroids. Both substances are: 1) prohibited at all times by WADA, 2) not approved for human use, 3) found off-label in some dietary supplements, 4) pose serious health risks, including heart attack, stroke and liver damage.
