Two UCI Gran Fondo World Championship Series races took place on either side of the Atlantic Ocean this past weekend, with Granfondo Vosges in France and Cheaha Challenge in the USA offering riders a chance to qualify for the 2025 world championships.
Saturday saw 110 Cheaha Challenge time trial competitors race against the clock for 12.5 flat kilometers, with multiple USA national champion Andrew Knight, 47, the fastest in 24:38, followed by Matt Clark at 25:16 and Ricardo Rouillon at 25:53. Karla Antonio was the fastest woman, finishing in 29:47.
After a weather delayed start, Andrew Knight also won Sunday’s 100-mile gran fondo. The 47 year-old finished in 4:19:34, with Ricardo Rouillon runner-up for a second day in a row with a time of 4:22:21. 19 year-old Ethan Hughes was third in 4:25:01.
American Emma Drabbe, 30, won the women’s gran fondo in 4:52:25, with Sarah Powers and Blaire Mccurry next in 5:03:12 and 5:15:43 respectively.

In Vosges, France it was the Dutch rider Stijn Wieling who claimed victory in the 175 kilometer Granfondo Vosges. After ascending almost 3000 vertical meters over a distance of 175 kilometers Wieling still had enough strength to out-sprint breakaway companion Vince Mattens of Belgium to win and qualify for the world championships. The pair finished in 4:30:26, with Damien Degot taking third two minutes later.
The German Julia Schallau in 4:50:39 won the women’s granfondo title, followed by Aurore Pauchet at 4:57:45 and Sandrine Etienne at 5:07:02

Competitors finishing in the top 25% of their UCI age/gender category at Granfondo Vosges or Cheaha Challenge automatically qualify to participate in the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships next October in Australia.
