The 10th Gran Fondo Squali di Cattolica took place on Sunday at world famous Cattolica Aquarium along the sunny Adriatic Riviera of Italy with over 2000 participants.
On a 128km shark-tooth profile route with 2000 meters of climbing 36 year-old Danilo Celano (TEAM GO FAST) won in 3:16:41 from a three rider break. Ivan Martinelli and Pietro Sarto took the remaining podium spots a few seconds later to complete an all Italian sweep.
Italian Guilia Medri (MG.K VIS OLMO-PROMOTECH) won the women’s competition solo in 3:38:07. The 30 year-old handily defeated Elisa Leardini (3:42:39), and Lisa De Cesare (3:51:53).
Francesco Pirro (TEAM GO FAST) at 26 years-old won the shorter 85km medio fondo in 2:11:49, with 38 year-old Alessia Bortoli (VIBRATA BIKE 2005) the fastest woman in 2:21:32.
