Riding to cheers and support from his hometown neighbors, Italian Marco Rinaldi (PIGARELLA MULTISPORT) soloed to victory after 134km and 2700m of climbing at the 2nd L’Etape Parma in Italy on Sunday.

After finishing third last year, the 31 year-old from Parma left no doubt that he was the strongest rider on the day, crossing the finish line arms-raised in 3:44:04 and stepping onto the podium with a two minute winning margin. Giuseppe Orlando and Ivan Martinelli battled for the remaining podium steps, both finishing in 3:46:14 in that order.

29 year-old Elisa Leardini (MG.K VIS-OLMO-PROMOTECH) of Italy also crossed the finish solo to win for the women, stoping the clock in 4:25:42 with a commanding four minute lead over the next two riders, Ilaria Lombardo (2nd) and Lisa De Cesare (3rd).

Over 1200 riders participated in L’Etape Parma, part of the Tour de France amateur gran fondo series, with the top 3 men and women earning a starting spot at the L’Etape du Tour championship race taking place 20 July in Albertville, France.
