Although the field was small with about 500 participants, Mads Wurtz Schmidt (PAS RACING) and Morgan Aguirre (PAS RACING) put in huge efforts to earn solo victories at Monaco Gravel in France on 20 April, with both qualifying to race at the 2025 UCI Gravel World Championships.
On a 120 kilometer route from Peille with 2400 metres of climbing Schmidt earned his second UCI Gravel World Series win this season. The 31 year-old former Danish WorldTour pro finished almost 5 minutes ahead of the next competitor, crossing under the finish banner in 3:51:32. Luka Postlberger claimed second place in 3:55:15, followed by 2023 GFNY World Champion Mattia Gaffuri at 3:58:24.
For the women it was the American Aguirre who dominated the race, completing the route with a 5 minute advantage. The 31 year-old pro gravel racer now living in Spain won with a time of 4:35:55. Nicole Frain took the second podium step in 4:40:53, with Caroline Schiff next at 4:43:59.
Riders finishing in the top 25% of their UCI age/gender category automatically qualified for the 2025 UCI Gravel World Championships taking place in the Netherlands next October.
