With the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place in Australia next October, Australian’s had one final chance to qualify on home soil on Sunday 13 April at Tour de Brisbane – part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series.

The 120km gran fondo route on closed roads around downtown Brisbane saw former pro Franz Taruia Krainer (CHOLET 49), 33, narrowly win from a small leading pack. The French Polynesia racer won with final time of 2:51:12, followed 1 second later by Kester McQueen and Benjamin Quinn in that order.

Fomer Australian Zwift Academy finalist Imogen Alton, 28, won the women’s race solo in 3:06:52, with Pip Hill pipping Elle De Nooyer for second place over two minutes later.

Jackson Starmer and Prue French won the shorter 80km medio fondo in 2:15:28 and 2:26:19 respectively.

Riders finishing in the top 25% of their UCI age/gender category automatically qualified to participate in the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships later this year.
