On Friday the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced they have once again chosen a host venue for the 2025 UCI Gravel World Championships, this time it is the Zuid-Limburg region of the Netherlands on 11-12 October.
Nice, France was originally awarded the world championships, but in February the organizer bailed out at the last minute due to “various constraints”, leaving the UCI scrambling to find a new venue.
Now, hopefully, the gravel worlds are all set to go…
The Netherlands is very familiar with hosting world championships, having already hosted the 2018 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships and five editions of the UCI Road World Championships, held in Valkenburg in 1938, 1948, 1979, 1998 and 2012.
“By hosting the UCI Gravel World Championships, the province of Limburg has further enhanced its standing as a leading cycling region at international level, while contributing to the development of gravel, a discipline that is still quite new and has considerable potential for growth,” UCI President David Lappartient said.
Organizer Christophe Impens, Director of International Cycling at Golazo, added “Golazo has been managing the UCI Gravel World Series on behalf of the UCI since 2022, and we have recently renewed that agreement until 2030. Our passion for this fast-growing cycling discipline also resulted in the organisation of the 2023 UEC Gravel European Championships and the 2024 UCI Bolero Gravel World Championships in Flanders.”
More event details will be communicated in the coming weeks as the UCI, Golazo, the province of Limburg and the three host municipalities (Maastricht, Beek and Beekdaelen) work quickly to finalize plans.
