This weekend the UCI Gran Fondo World Series returned to the island of Cyprus, offering 400 amateur competitors three opportunities (Time Trial, Fondo, Fondo) to qualify for the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.
Friday’s 27.4km Time Trial kicked off the weekend’s racing, with an all Russian podium for the men. Former pro Aydar Zakarin (INEX CLUB RED) setting a blistering pace of 47.7 km/hr to win in 34:36. Evgenii Tikhonin was next at 35:10, followed by Kirill Kolenchits in 35:51, both riders also from Inex Club Red.
For the women it was Russian Elizaveta Ivanova (SERPANTIN & AIRWERKS GIRLS) taking the win in 43:52, followed by Martyna Wisniewska of Poland at 44:27 and local rider Ekaterina Kovalchuk at 44:57.
The UCI Gran Fondo World Series Time Trial wins for Aydar Zakarin and Elizaveta Ivanova are their second this year. Both won at UCI Gran Fondo Jordan Dead Sea in February.
Gran Fondo and Medio Fondo races will take place on both Saturday and Sunday.
Riders finishing in the top 25% of their UCI age/gender category in the Time Trial or the Gran/Medio Fondo races automatically qualified for the world championships taking place in Australia next October.
