Out of concern that the worldwide cycling industry’s ongoing sales slump will cause irreversible financial damage to the sport, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Management Committee voted to ban road bikes from amateur mass start events, and instead require cyclists switch to time trial bikes.

UCI Presidente Davide Departtient announced the rational for change, “We’re going to make aero great again! We’re going to have profit growth in the industry like nobody has ever seen. TT bike sales are going to grow bigly, unbelievably hugely. Plus I will demand manufacturers pay vast sums of money to us for saving them.”

The strategic change is expected to generate millions of time trial bike sales worldwide as aging amateurs slip into bike shops to purchase the latest 5-figure time trial machines.

Cycling industry executives lauded the move, with Gigantic Bicycles worldwide production manager Ceril de Airo eager to ramp up production.

“Not since the 1980s Giro Aerohead helmet, Scott clip-on bars and Lycra skinsuits has the Union Cycliste Internationale embraced such bold and innovative change, a giddy Airo told Gran Fondo Daily.
