A pair of enterprising 23 year-old cyclists from Oregon are planning to race 3500 miles across America only eating burritos from the Chipotle Mexican restaurant chain.
After completing a week-long 600 mile, 21 burrito, 13 Chipotle restaurant “taste test” in February from San Francisco to Los Angeles, former collegiate racer Tyler Brown and adventure cyclist Tasman Alexander now plan to race across America – sponsored by Chipotle.
Documenting their February ride on Instagram attracted over 16,000 followers – and more importantly the social media folks at Chipotle Mexican Grill, a fast-casual restaurant chain popular with cyclists that creates burritos, bowls and tacos from fresh, high-quality engredients.
Stocking up on burritos at each Chipotle en route helped Brown and Alexander meet their daily nutritional needs, especially on long stretches across coastal California landscapes void of Chipotles, sometimes upwards of 200 miles.
While dates for their 3500 mile cross country Chipotle-to-Chipotle race are pending, Alexander, told The Tribune in San Luis Obispo, “I have actually heard from Chipotle, and I’m optimistic that that we’ll be able to make the trip happen.”
