The 10th Gran Fondo Strade Bianche took place Sunday morning on the stunning white gravel roads of Tuscany, with Federico Pozzetto (MGK VIS-OLMO PROMOTECH) and Giulia Bissos (TEAM PIU SPORT) reaching the traditional crowed lined finish at Piazza del Campo in Siena first.
On the 138 kilometer route, including 44 kilometers of gravel paths, 31 year-old Federico Pozzetto pulled away in the final kilometer to win with arms held high. Giovanni Loiscio (ERACLE) at 3:37:52 and Patrick Facchini (SILDOM GARDA) in 3:37:52 completed the podium
After winning the first two tests of the Italian season, Giulia Bisso, 38, also claimed victory in Siena. On the final climb up to the piazza, she distanced Laura Simenc (SANTINI SQUADRA CORSE) by 2 seconds to win in 4:00:52. Minutes later last year’s champion Marine Lenehan (DAN MORISSEY PISSEI) finished at 4:08:34.
For the shorter 87 kilometer medio fondo it was Paolo Totò (TEAM GO FAST) winning for the men in 2:16:24, with Silvia Visaggi (OM.CC) achieving the same for the women in 2:30:58.
