On Tuesday the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) unexpectedly announced the 2025 Gravel World Championships planned for Nice, France have been cancelled.

“The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announces that the 2025 UCI Gravel World Championships will not take place as planned in Nice (France) on 18 October,” the UCI said via press release.

Adding, “The UCI and the City of Nice acknowledged the difficulties of organizing the event in the capital of the French Riviera on that date, and in view of various constraints, technical and regarding the calendar, it was mutually agreed not to organize the 4th edition of the UCI worlds for gravel in Nice.”

With 2025 UCI Gravel World Championship Series qualifying already underway and less than 8 months to go before the worlds, the UCI is now frantically searching for a new organizer, host venue, race route and date.

This is the second 2025 World Championship problem facing the UCI, with the Road World Championships scheduled in war-torn Rwanda on the verge of cancellation and without a back-up plan.
