Last Sunday in Westerham 1100 British riders launched their 2025 season at one of the country’s most popular (and challenging) sportives – Hell of the Ashdown.
On 101km shark-tooth profile route with 1850 meters of rated climbs (4 HC, 1 Cat 1, 4 Cat 2), riders struggled up steep grades again, again and again – except Olympian Ed Clancy who casually climbed “The Wall” on one wheel.
Fastest on the day was Tom Lawson who finished in 3:08:16, followed by Clancy (3:15:48), Rob Ogrady (3:16:52), Tom Smith (3:20:52), Oliver Shoosmith (3:23:38), Araron Sparks Caralon (3:26:16), Josh Kern (3:29:51), Brendan Linnane (3:30:11), Michele Vascellari (3:31:43) and Jonathan Brown (3:32:10).
Janye Edwards was the fastest woman, reaching the finish in 3:45:52. Tia Trafford (3:58:06), Pat Donlon (3:59:28), Sarah Codd (4:02:04) and Anne Brammall (4:06:01) rounded out the Top 5.
Afterwards, riders celebrated their early season form (or lack thereof) by refueling with a pint or two at the brilliant host venue – Westerham Brewery Co.
