International Cycling Union (UCI) has banned double Masters World Sprint Champion Marcel Laurenz  for 3 years after he tested positive for two performance enhancing anabolic steroids – Drostanolone and Stanozolol.

The 52 year-old German amateur tested positive on 6 October 2024, just days before winning his second in a row world title and pulling on a rainbow jersey at the velodrome in Roubaix, France.

Laurenz is banned from participating in sport in any capacity until 5 December 2027. In addition, he is stripped of all results won from 6 October 2024 – 6 December 2024, including his world championship title.

Stanozolol and Drostanolone are anabolic steroid drugs often used by professional body builders to enhance muscle growth while maintaining lean body mass. Both are banned at all times by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
