From a field of over 1000 cyclists 18 year-old Syrian racer Ibrahiem Alrefai (KHORFAKKAN SPORTS CLUB) was the fastest at L’Etape Dubai by Tour de France on Sunday, winning the gran fondo in grand style.

On a 101 kilometer flat route throughout the city of Dubai the 18 year-old finished in 2:17:24, powering past Russians Ivan Kormshchiko and Dani Konotop in a mad dash to reach the finish.

30 year-old Ukrainian National Road Champion Olha Shekel won the women’s gran fondo race with a time of 02:20:20, defeating UAE riders Ebtissam Zayed and Olivuja Balesisyte in a sprint finish.

After standing tall on the winner’s podium, pulling on a yellow L’Etape Dubai champion’s jersey and smiling ear-to-ear, Alrefai said, “Winning the inaugural L’Etape Dubai is an incredible honor. The course was both challenging and rewarding, and the atmosphere was fantastic with all the new cyclists, whether they were professionals or trying cycling for the first time. It was a true test of endurance, and I couldn’t be prouder to stand on the podium as the first winner of L’Etape Dubai by Tour de France.”

In the shorter 50 kilometer medio fondo Emirates Lumanog Marco and Akvile Gedraityte won for the men and women respectively.
