After a two month pause, qualifying for the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships resumed at the 3rd edition of Gran Fondo Jordan Dead Sea on Thursday.
From each of three scheduled races (TT, RR, RR), riders finishing in the top 25% in their UCI age/gender category qualify to compete for prestigious rainbow jerseys at the world championships next October in Australia.
First to qualify were individual time trial cyclists on a 19 kilometer out-and-back route along the edge of the Dead Sea, including 120 meters of climbing.
30 year-old former Russian pro Aydar Zakarin (INEX) clocked the fastest time, finishing in 24:47 at an average speed of 46km/h. Sergei Kozulin was next at 25:59, followed by last year’s winner Majid Basim Mohammed Abuharrah at 26:20.
For the women it was fellow Russian Elizaveta Ivanova who took top honers, with the 31 year-old stopping the clock in 29:36 at 39.5km/h. Jenny Berglund-Blanke and Ekaterina Krainiuk finished second and third with times of 32:25 and 32:57 respectively.
In the 74km gran fondo on Friday Elizaveta Ivanova finished first for the women for the second day in a row, this time by a commanding 8 minutes in 2:33:32. Kristina Romasko and Olga Janiszewska earned second and third place.
For the men it was Dominik Omiotek who took a well earned solo win in 2:11:33, with Majid Basim a minute behind and Helal Alharbi another three minutes back.
On Saturday Elizaveta Ivanova once again climbed onto the top of the podium, winning the gran fondo in 2:39:13, almost 11+ minutes ahead of Kristina Romanasko and Tamara Zein.
Mo’men abed-alhkeem saeed (Elite Cycling Club) won the men’s gran fondo, alongside teammate Majid Basim in 2:21:01. Ibrahim eid Alsuwaidi earned third place in 2:25:46.
