Five months after a horrific crash that saw Italian Alice Toniolli (TOP GIRLS FASSA BORTOLO) slam into a concrete wall at the Circuito dell’Assunta race in August, the 19 year-old left hospital and returned to her home in Mezzocorona last week.

Watch the crash below – WARNING IT IS CRINGEWORTHY.

After hitting her head on the wall and crumpling to ground Toniolli spent 10 days in a coma and still does not remember what happened.

But now after months in hospital receiving critical care and support from family, friends and doctors, she is once again able to walk, read and talk, though she still faces a long and uncertain road to fully recover.

A promising young racer, Toniolli only moved out of the junior ranks last year, participating in just five elite races before the crash. A time trial specialist, in 2023 she won the Italian Junior Women’s Time Trial National Championship, placed 3rd at the prestigious Chrono des Nations and finished 18th at the UCI Junior World Championships in Scotland.

The Treviso Public Prosecutor’s Office is still investigating the crash, trying to discern if the race organizer is partly culpable for incident since the concrete wall had no safety precautions, like placing hay bales in front of it.
