On Friday grand tour organizer Unipublic announced they are bringing their La Vuelta race to Mexico in 2025 as part of the amateur Desafío La Vuelta gran fondo series.

Recognized internationally for organising La Vuelta, the most important race in Spain and one of the biggest cycling races worldwide, the amateur race will bring all the thrills and excitement of riding in a grand tour to the Americas.

Desafío México by La Vuelta says it is “a total immersion in the passion and spirit of the Spanish race”, combining the spectacular natural scenery of Mexico and the enormous and historical Aztec culture. Adding, participants will be able to enjoy a route designed ”to live the same experiences as the great champions of the race.”

While key details (date, location, routes, etc.) are pending, the event is likely to take place next fall or early winter in the warm climes of Mexico. Former La Vuelta superstars in attendance will likely include 3x La Vuelta champion Alberto Contador, Fabio Aru, Óscar Freire and Nicolas Roche.

Desafío México by La Vuelta will be the second amateur gran fondo event in the growing series, after Desafío China, whose third edition will be held in June 2025 near Bejing.
