On New Year’s Day in gruelling wet weather conditions on the Belize-Mexico border, the 34th KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic launched the 2025 racing season, with a pair of riders from the Miami Blazers emerging victorious.

With 2024 winner John Delong not registered the men’s race was wide open for a new champion to be crowned and take home the lion’s share of a $12,000 prize purse.

It was reigning Belizean National Road Champion Соrу Wіllіаmѕ (MIAMI BLAZERS) who took top honors for the men, winning the 34th edition of the popular New Year’s Day race. In pouring rain the 31 year-old edged seven fellow break away riders in a rain soaked sprint to take his first КRЕМ Nеw Yеаr’ѕ Dау Сусlіng Сlаѕѕіс. Оѕсаr Quіrоz placed ѕесоnd, with Miguel Angel Cendales Lopez third.

William’s 28 year-old teammate Mary Joyce Monton (MIAMI BLAZERS) won the women’s race after finishing second last year. Francine Gigli earned second place, with Norma Nunez third.

In other categories Dwауnе Wаdе (BZ-BOYZ) won the 50+ race, Byron Pope (A. MAHLER DIGI ALLIANCE) 35+, Devyn Major (G-FLOW) junior men and Irene Baki (WRD) junior women.
