The cycling world mourns the loss of Pascal Hervé, who passed away on Christmas Eve at the age of 60 after battling aggressive stomach cancer.
Best known as a key French rider for the Festina pro cycling team during the 1990’s, he participated in 6 Tour de France, 3 Giro d’Italia and 6 Vuelta a Espana before retiring at age 37.
In recent years Hervé relocated from France to Canada to work as a cycling coach. He also returned to racing, qualifying for the 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, where he won a bronze medal in the Men’s 55-59 category.
His career was not without controversy, he was member of the infamous Festina team banned from the 1998 Tour de France for doping. He also tested positive for Erythropoietin (EPO) in 2001 at the Giro d’Italia and was banned from the race by his own team.
On X-Twitter former Festina teammate Laurent Brochard offered his heartfelt thoughts upon learning of Hervé’s passing: “Pascal, my friend, I am so moved. You left on Christmas night, rock’n’roll until the end… I will cherish countless memories and good times together. You have always been there, even during tough moments. I love you, my friend, until we meet again. You will be missed.”
