After years of declining participation and cancelled events, the former iconic Haute Route multi-day gran fondo series will offer just one race in 2025 – Haute Route Alps.
Last year, after being sold for a fourth time, the series was bought by French Velo Evènements (FVE), a joint-venture with the French Cycling Federation and public relations firm Hopscotch.
At the time Michel Callot, President of the French Cycling Federation, was optimistic about Haute Route’s future – even in the face a world-wide cycling industry recession.
“The French Cycling Federation has decided to join its forces with Hopscotch to build an ambitious cycling events calendar, bringing the best of both entities… Promoting Haute Route is a new challenge that completely fits FVE strategy,” Callot announced.
After organizing a high of 8 multi-day gran fondo races worldwide in 2020, under Callot’s leadership Haute Route offered just 3 events in 2024 and plans only 1 in 2025.
Haute Route Alps will take place 24-30 August from Megève to Nice, covering 800 kilometers of stunning alpine roads in the French Alps, including over 20,000 meters of total elevation gain.
Last year 336 amateur riders participated in Haute Route Alps, down almost 40% from a high of 548 in 2015 and continuing a long running downward trend.
