UPDATE 22 January 2025: A French court found Marion Sicot criminally guilty of possessing and importing doping products, sentencing her to a 10 month suspended prison sentence and fining her €5000.
Former French cyclist Marion Sicot tested positive for the banned substance EPO (Erythropoietin) in 2019 and was subsequently banned for four years. The 32 year-old, now coaching and competing in triathlons, is about to go trial in a French criminal court for possession and import of doping products.
On Wednesday 20 November Sicot will be tried “for acts of import and possession of doping products”, including Erythropoietin, Montargis Public Prosecutor Jean-Cédric Gaux told AFP News.
Sicot tested positive for EPO at the 2019 French Road Championships where she finished 9th, but afterwards repeatedly denied having used the performance enhancing drug. Though she later publicly admitted to having injected EPO three days before the race.
After a lengthy court process Sicot was banned from sport for four years, but now Gaux claims to have uncovered additional facts and charged her, as well as two others, with new doping crimes. An acquaintance of Sicot, who allegedly helped administered the banned drugs, and a doctor, suspected of writing illegal prescriptions for the drugs, will also go on trial.
If found guilty, Sicot and the other defendants may be sentenced up to five years in prison and/or fined 75,000 Euros. The court is expected to render a verdict on 22 January 2025.
