The 2024 Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo, organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, started at 06:00 Saturday morning on a 150 kilometer course from Abu Dhabi to the Al Ain Cycling Track, with former WordTour pro Grega Bole (SHABAB ALAHLI CYCLING TEAM) winning the world’s richest gran fondo with a 500,000 EUR prize list – a second time.
Boles, who last won the race in 2022, out-sprinted breakaway companion and teammate Tim Marsman to win in 3:20:52 and take home a winners check worth ~26,000 EUR. Marsman also had a nice payday, winning ~13,000 EUR. Nassim Saidi from the Dubair Police Cycling team finished third in 3:23:11 to claim ~5,200 EUR.
Olivija Baleisyte (DUBAI POLICE CYCLING TEAM) also won the event for a second time. She finished in 3:24:02 after defeating teammates Akvile Gedraityte and Madison Black in a close sprint. With equal prize lists, the top three women also took home checks totaling ~44,200 EUR.
Riders registered as Professionals on a UCI WorldTour team, UCI Women WorldTour team or UCI Proteam within the last two years were not eligible for any cash prizes. UCI Elite/Continental team riders, including Grega Bole who left the WorldTour in 2020, were eligible for cash prizes.
Over 500 cyclists participated in the event, with top competitors not the only ones claiming a share of the huge 500,000 EUR prize list. Overall results for men and women paid 20 places deep, with age group categories also paying 10 places.
