Retiring professional rider Rigoberto “Rigo” Uran (EF EDUCATION-EASYPOST) held a farewell party last weekend in Medellin, Colombia at his Giro de Rigo gran fondo, where more than 11,000 enthusiastic cyclists showed up to support the legendary rider.

The Giro de Rigo gran fondo covered 155 kilometers in the mountainous Avenida Las Palmas, San Vicente Ferrer, Barbosa, Girardota, and Bello regions. A shorter 65 kilometer medio fondo route was also available.

Elite rider Bernardo Suaraz Arango was first to cross the gran fondo finish line, stopping the clock in 4:14:18, followed by Maur Zapata Arboleda at 4:15:04 and Brandon Alejandro Rojo Vega at 4:15:05. Jessenia Meneses Gonzalez was the fastest woman, finishing in 4:44:18.

The first amateur to reach the finish was 42 year-old Oscar Tovar, who scored his second Giro de Rigo victory after winning in 2022. The former GFNY World Champion, who was later stripped of his title for Testosterone doping, reached the finish solo in 4:23:21. Nicolas Urrego Londono was next at 4:23:27, followed by Felipe Mellizo at 4:24:14.

Uran was not the only pro in attendance. Other notable cycling stars joining him, included Alejandro Valverde, Joaquin Rodriguez, Danny Martinez, Fernando Gaviria, Santiago Buitrago, Maria Luisa Calle and Santiago Botero.

On 24 November Rigoberto Uran will take one last farewell spin with fans at Giro de Rigo Ecuador.
