Former neo-pro Moris Sammassimo, who finished third at Paris-Roubaix U23 in 1998, has been banned 4 years by NADO Italia after testing positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol.

After finishing 80th overall at Granfondo Terre dei Varano in June 2023, the 46 year-old failed an anti-doping test for Clenbuterol – a bronchodilator prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. In 2022 he won the UEC European Gran Fondo Championship in the Men’s 45-49 category, while also finishing 8th at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships held in Trento, Italy.

This is not Sammassimo’s first time caught up in sports doping. La tribuna di Treviso reports he was accused of using amphetamine doping “bombs” at amateur gran fondos in 2002 after leaving the professional ranks.

Sammassimo is banned from participating in sport in any capacity until 2 August 2027.
