MyWhoosh virtual cycling platform is set to host the live in-person 2024 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships on Saturday 26 October at 17:00 GST (GMT +4) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
22 men and 20 women from across the globe have pre-qualified to compete in-person in front of a live audience over three omnium stages, racing for a UCI world title, rainbow jersey and $60,000 USD in cash.

The wannabe world champions qualified via a public available-to-all process, with individual performances verified via robust Esports anti-doping measures and the use of standardized Elite Justo 2 smart trainers certified accurate to within 1%.
In a discipline of the sport known for rampant cheating, the UCI is confident their new performance verification process will ensure accurate and fair racing for all competitors. At semi-final qualification races in September, the UCI and MyWhoosh identified 11 racers (6 men, 5 women) with power, heart and/or data recording anomalies, resulting in their disqualification.
“The UCI’s primary concern is making sure we have a fair and legitimate race,” UCI Esports Coordinator Jacob Fraser told Virtual Velo. “We are the International Sporting Body, and we’re interested in ensuring that the sport is executed fairly and consistently. This year’s World Championship will have the most robust anti-doping measures we’ve ever seen, simply because all of the athletes will be in one location, which makes it easier.”
Matt Smithson, Race and Events Manager at MyWhoosh, added, “Each [smart] trainer has its data sheet showing its ID, test results, and security tag numbers for the anti-tamper cables. These cables prevent any tampering with the device and will only be removed once on stage in Abu Dhabi.”
