UPDATE 10 FEBRUARY 2026: Ride London 2026 is dead, kaput, finished. A statement from the organizer said the event is “on indefinite pause following operational and financial considerations of the event’s future direction.”
One of the world’s largest mass participation gran fondo style events has been canceled, again. The 2025 RideLondon planned for May in the UK will not take place so the organizer “can focus on a full strategic review” and “design a new concept which will engage more riders of all ages and abilities,” according to statements posted on the event website.
In 2020 COVID toppled plans for the event and the next year was no better. The 2021 edition was canceled after local residents grew tired of having 25,000 lycra-clad cyclists blocking roads, creating congestion, littering, urinating in public and displaying anti-social behavior.
Then in 2023 the event was once again on the verge of being cancelled, this time due to lack of sponsorship. Luckily, Ford signed on as title sponsor at the last minute, allowing RideLondon to live for yet another year.
But now RideLondon’s 12 year reign may be ending.
Riders who signed up for the 2025 edition will have their entry fee refunded, according to the RideLondon website.
