Four amateur cyclists from South Africa have been banned by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) after committing World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) violations.

Wihl Vermaak has been banned 3 years after returned a positive anti-doping test result for the WADA banned substance Testosterone in June 2023. Shortly before he finished 3rd and won a bronze medal at the South Africa Time Trial Championships in the Men’s 35-39 category. Vermaak now cannot not participate in sport in any capacity until 11 June 2026.

Adriaan Almero Oosthuizen, 34, tested positive for the presence of RAD140 after finishing 3rd overall at the 2023 Herald Mountain Bike Race. He is required to serve a 3 year ban, which runs until 15 March 2026. RAD140, also known as testolone or radarine, is a Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator (SARM) that produces effects similar to Testosterone, but is not approved for human use and is banned at all times by WADA.

Douglas Lang failed a dope test after finishing 9th in the Veteran Men 40-49 category at the South African MTB Cross-Country Championship. He tested positive for 19-Norandrosterone, Nandrolone, 19-Noreticholanolone. All three substances are Anabolic Androgenic Steroids designed to increase muscle mass/strength and aid recover, but are prohibited at all times by WADA. Lang is banned for 3 years, until 1 June 2026.

Albetrus Nel also failed a dope test at the South African MTB Cross-Country Championship after finishing 4th in the Veteran Men 40-49 category. He tested positive for a smorgasbord of WADA banned substances, including Stanozolol, GW1516 and THC. After serving a 3 year ban, Nel will be eligible to participate in sport once again on 1 June 2026.
