The UCI and AusCycling have announced event details for the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place in the Australian coastal city of Lorne, just outside Melbourne, on the Great Ocean Road.

Racing will occur 17-19 October 2025, with the Team Relay starting a world championship weekend on Friday evening, followed by Saturday’s Individual Time Trial and then Gran Fondo road racing on Sunday morning. NOTE: No separate Medio Fondo for older age categories is planned, with all competitors riding the same route.

The Time Trial route will take riders from Lorne on a 22.9 kilometer out-and-back route along the iconic Great Ocean Road. The route is anything but flat, featuring almost 400 meters of elevation change and many punchy short pitches sure to break a rider’s rhythm.

The Gran Fondo races Sunday 19 October will be on a 122 kilometer loop for all categories, starting from Lorne with a brutal ascent into the Otway Mountains from the first pedal stroke. In total riders will tackle almost 1900 meters of climbing on the route, with Mount Sabine at the midpoint including grades up to 12%.

Friday’s Team Relay takes place on a spectator friendly 1.9km rolling circuit with a few technical turns along Lorne’s ocean front.

To compete in the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships riders must qualify at a UCI Gran Fondo World Series (UCI GFWS) event, finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category. Qualifying events have already been announced and are listed below.
