From a field of over 4000 participants, two riders dominated the 43rd Ötztaler Radmarathon on Sunday, Janine Meyer of Germany and Canadian Jack Burke were unstoppable, each wining the event for a second time by HUGE margins.
On the epic 227 kilometer long route with 5500 meters of elevation change, last year’s champion in the women’s race, Meyer, dropped her main challengers early and convincingly to once again solo to victory. The 37 year-old reached the finish in 7:26:26, with almost a 30 minute gap over the next woman. The Belgian Ils Van der Moeren (7:53:29) finished in second place, with Roberta Bussone (8:00:31)of Italy third.
For the men it was 36 year-old Jack Burke (ARBO HEADSTART ON FAHRRAD), who won in 2022, claiming solo victory in 6:49:14, with over a 10 minute gap on former Austrian pro Hans-Jorg Leopold (6:59:36) and the Italian Stefano Cecchini (6:59:37).
Over 20,000 cyclists entered the lottery to ride in this year’s edition, with only 4226 cyclists from 36 nations lucky enough to gain entry into one of Europe’s most storied amateur cycling races.
Registration for the 2025 Otztaler lottery will open in January, with the event tentatively scheduled to take place on 31 August in Solden, Austria.
