With less than a week before the start of the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Aalborg, Denmark, 1000 riders kicked off qualifying for next year’s worlds at the 52nd Gran Fondo Matildica in Italy on Sunday 25 August.
Winning the 155km gran fondo by almost 5 minutes was former Continental level pro Alberto Nardin (TEAM BIKE PANCALIERI), who finished in 4:03:30. Danilo Celano and Matteo Freddi completed the podium in second and third place respectively from a chasing pack that finished in 4:08:14.
Giulia Bisso (TEAM PROMOTECH – MG K-VIS) won for the women in 4:35:33 after out-sprinting teammate Giulia Medri at the finish. Eva Pigna Eva was third in 4:43:11.
On the 119km medio fondo route Marco Rinaldi (PIGARELLA MULTISPORT) and Dalila Ivana Sasso (PINK WAVE) won in 3:19:46 and 3:37:53.
The top 25% finishers in each UCI age/gender category automatically qualify for the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships which will take place in Melbourne, Australia.
