2500 riders, a new record, participated in 2012 Giro d’Italia Champion Ryder Hesjedal’s 13th Tour de Victoria gran fondo in beautiful British Columbia, Canada on Saturday.
“We sold out again this year it was a record year. We have riders from [age] 2 to 92 that come together for the day to participate in a great community ride…” organizer Heleena Gutierrez told checknews.ca.
Hesjedal, 43, led the peloton out from the provincial capital city of Victoria on a 160 kilometer long route that included 2200 meters of elevation gain, with shorter ride options also available.
First to roll across the finish line was 23 year-old pro Evan Russell (Hustle Pro Cycling) in 4:14:50, over 5 minutes ahead of Matthew Bennett (4:20:10) and Eric Hauner (4:20:29). Erin Tolfo (United Velo) was the first woman with a time of 4:57:00.
