On Sunday morning outside Boulder, Colorado USA 4000 cyclists from 50 states and 20 countries took over Highway 119 to ride in honor of 17 year-old Magnus White, who was killed one year ago by a hit-and-one driver hours before departing to race at the UCI World Championships in Glasgow.
The Ride for Magnus took participants from the city of Boulder to Gunbarrel, winding past a white ghost bike and American flag that commemorates the spot where Magnus died – while wearing his USA National Team jersey.

Among his many accomplishments, Magnus won the 2021 USA Junior Cyclocross Championships and competed on Team USA at the European Cyclocross championships.
The event was organized by The White Line Foundation whose mission is to drive change to make roads safer in the wake a tragic crash that took the life of one of the USA’s up-and-coming cycling stars.
23-year-old Yeva Smilianska has been arrested and charged with the felony vehicular homicide of Magnus. Police state in court documents that Smilianksa fell asleep at the wheel before swerving, hitting and killing Magnus. She pleaded not guilty to the charges in May 2024, claiming the car steering wheel malfunctioned. The case goes to jury trial in December.
