The 33rd edition of La Indurain gran fondo was held Saturday in Villava, Spain, hometown of five-time champion of the Tour de France Miguel Indurain, with 1700 participants thrilled to join Spain’s greatest cyclist of all time on his favorite training routes.

The event had three routes, all with departure and arrival in Villava: a piccolo fondo of 65 kilometers (+653 meters of elevation gain); 100 kilometer medio fondo (+1452m) and the 180 kilometer gran fondo (+3,252m).

Winner of the gran fondo was 44 year-old former professional Angel Vazquez Iglesias, who finished in 5:18:36 at an average speed of 33.9 km/h. Roberto Otin Puertolas (5:19:37) and Daniel Azcoiti Gorria (5:19:47) were next. Miguel Indurain, 60, finished in 6:30:17.

37 year-old professional Iris Gomez Argiles (KOSNER SALTOKI HOMEE), who finished 14th at the Spanish National Elite Championships last month, won for the women in 5:42:08.

Victor Ganuza Lesaka (SARRIBIKES RACING TEAM) won the men’s medio fondo in 2:40:49. While Ainhoa Etxegarai Elgorriaga was victorious in women’s race with a final time of 2:54:30.

Guillermo Piedrafita Gazo (ECOTISA-MECANIZADOSPG) and Ana Escalada Altava (CLUB TRIATLON CASTELLON) won the piccolo fondo for the men and women respectively.
