The 37th Maratona dles Dolomites in Italy ended with victory for Italian Giuseppe Orlando (CYCLING EXPLORERS) and Slovenian Laura Simenc (TEAM DE ROSA SANTINI) after 138 kilometers of racing in miserable wet conditions with over 4200 meters of climbing.

Orlando triumphed one week after winning the legendary French race La Marmotte. The 24 year-old rider battled through sleet and rain to win with a final time of 4:30:37, half-a-minute ahead of David Mayo (4:31:10) and Tommaso Elettrico (4:31:15). Manuel Senni (4:31:55) and Loic Ruffaut (4:33:14) completed the top five.

“I played cunning, telling my breakaway partner [Mayo] that I was fine, while in reality I could no longer feel my legs. So he slowed down a bit and we got to the finish together. I took the last corner first and won. I am overjoyed and I dedicate this victory to my grandfather, who passed away a week ago,” Orlando said afterwards.

34 year-old multiple UCI Gran Fondo World Champion Laura Simenc won for the women in 5:30:31, three minutes up on Roberta Bussone (5:33:24). Reigning world champion Ils Van der Moeren of Belgium, 50, finished third in 5:45:18.

Stefan Kirchmair (3:21:38) and Guilia Medri (4:07:33) won the shorter 106km medio fondo, with Thomas Hintner (1:59:22) and Michela Santini (2:21:08) doing the same in the 55km piccolo fondo.

Starting and finishing in Badia, Italy, over 8000 riders participated in the sold out event. The 38th edition is planned for 6 July 2025.
