As the Tour de France got under way last weekend, 7000 amateur Le Tour riders took to the roads around Viborg, Denmark for the 2nd L’Etape Denmark, with former Danish pro road racer Mathias Lisson, 34, winning the main 300km race.

After eight hours of racing through a windswept countryside that decimated the peloton, Lisson (8:05:35) claimed the L’Etape Yellow Jersey when he bested breakaway companion Nikolaj Hebsgaard (8:05:43) in a final dash to the line, with Mikkel Redder (8:09:44) finishing third a distant 4 minutes behind. German Julia Luck (9:21:22) decisively earned the women’s Yellow Jersey.

In the 160km race, Michel Elle of Germany was fastest for the men, stopping the clock in 4:16:10, while Dane Silke Baudendistel was the fastest woman in 4:57:52.

Danes Jens Frede Rasmussen and Line Glintborg took top honors in the 125km event, winning in 3:24:35 and 3:54:26 respectively.

With this year’s L’Etape Denmark completely sold-out, a third edition has already been scheduled for 28 June 2025 back in Viborg.
