32 year-old Alexis Guerin of France set a new course record on Saturday at the Quebrantahuesos gran fondo in Spain, ripping through the 200km mountainous route in 5:12:24 and smashing UCI Road World Champion Alejandro Valverde’s record set last year by almost two minutes.
Second to reach the finish line after conquering the route’s four Grand Tour passes (Somport, Marieblanc, Portalet and Hoz de Jaca) was Emmanuel Conet (5:21:44), with Oier Ibargueren (5:23:09) claiming the final podium step. Ester Ruiz Aldana won for the women in 6:21:12, followed by Lorena Del Castillo Alonso (6:21:16) and Conchi Perez Pardos (6:32:43).
The Treparriscos medio fondo, 85km with two mountain passes, was won by Fran Pozo in 2:21:55, with Máider Martín the first woman in 2:52:23.
Over 11,000 cyclists participated in the event, hosted by the town of Sabiñánigo in the Pyrenees on the Spanish-French border.
