21 year-old amateur Israeli cyclist Guy Timor was run over and killed on 6 June 2024 by an alleged drunk driver fleeing police in the south-central part of the country, according to reporting from The Times of Israel.

Moments before Timor was killed a self reported eyewitness dashcam video seems to show the alleged driver in a white Mini with black convertible top driving erratically at high speed while fleeing from police.

A 2024 Israeli national silver medalist on both the road and track, Timor (Dutch Food Valley Cycling Team – DFVCT) was out on a final training run before competing in the Czech Republic Grand Prix Brno races on the velodrome.

On Facebook DFVCT posted:  “A dark day for our team. Today we recieved the sad news that our rider Guy Timor passed away after an accident this morning in Israel. Guy had been with our team since this year, was highly talented and dreamed about becoming a pro cyclist. He was only 21 years old. We wish his family and friends a lot of strength in this terrible loss.“

Israeli police announced that a male suspect in his twenties, who has never held a driver’s license, had been detained and arrested after apparently hitting Timor while fleeing from officers who ordered him to stop for dangerous driving. Further investigation also revealed that the suspect had previous driving without a license convictions.
