For the third time in three weeks, the Italian Manuel Senni (TEAM CRAINOX) has notched another victory on the Italian gran fondo circuit at the 16th Marcialonga Craft in the stunning Dolomites, while Roberta Bussone (AZIMIUT SQUADRA CORSE) dominated the women’s race – winning by over ten minutes.
On the 127km gran fondo route with an imposing 4000m of vertical ascent Senni emerged victorious for the second year in a row, crossing under the finish banner with an arms raised victory salute in 4:08:28, almost three minutes ahead of Paolo Castelnovo (TEAM MP FILTRI) who finished in 4:11:11. Patrick Facchini was next in 4:12:26 to take the final podium position.
Roberta Bussone won for the women with the a time of 4:47:34, followed by Carlotte Uber (GARDA SCOTT MATERGIA) at 4:59:04 and Annalisa Prato (OM.CC) in 5:01:23.
Both champions were thrilled with their victories and told Seven Press:
“I wanted to do this race at all costs, in my opinion it is among the most spectacular and hardest in the Italian grand-fondo circuit,” said Bussone.
Senni exclaimed, “The Marcialonga is beautiful and I really recommend it to everyone!”
While men’s runner-up Castelnovo had to be content with a recurring theme, “It is the third Sunday in a row that I finish second and Manuel beats me, even today he had more and he deserved this victory.”
Pietro Sarti (TEAM CRAINOX) for the men and Luisa Isonni (BOARIO ASD) for the women won the 80km medio fondo races, including over 2500m of climbing.
1506 cyclists participated in the 16th Marcialonga Craft Cycling race, starting in Predazzo and finishing atop Localita Castelir.
